All I had to give I gave All I had to say I’ve said to you What
will you do?
All the tears I’ve had I’ve cried All the pain I felt inside for
you What will you do?
Will you turn me down today Will you up and walk away Inside your
heart you’ll always say It’s not for me
Laugh at me and turn me away Say anything you want to say But all
I’m telling you is true And all I’ve done I’ve done for you
Scriptural Reference:
"I tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you,
but you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commands and
followed me with all his heart, doing only what was right in my
eyes." 1 Kings 14:8
Narrative: I remember the day I rode into Jerusalem on a colt,
just as the prophet had said. For it was written, "rejoice greatly O
daughter of Zion, shout, daughter of Jerusalem. See, your king comes to
you, righteous, and having salvation, gentle, and riding on a donkey, on a
colt, the foal of a donkey." Indeed, a great crowd had gathered and began
to shout and sing, hosanna, hosanna in the highest, blessed is he who
comes in the name of the Lord. The people thought I had come to establish
a new kingdom, and I had, not in Jerusalem, but rather in their hearts.
Soon they would decide that my way was not their way, and they would cease
to sing and praise their new king. For just as the prophet Isaiah
described me, "He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him. Nothing
in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected
by men, a man of sorrows and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom
men hide their faces, he was despised and we esteemed him not. Surely he
took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him
stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted." Ah, but for those few
moments when they did believe that the fulfillment of the prophets and the
hope of the ages had come to them, for that brief moment, all of heaven
and all of earth rejoiced!
Chorus: Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna to the King Praises, praises,
praises now we sing
Glory to the King of Kings Glory to the Lord of Lords Let our
hearts and voices sing, forevermore (forevermore)
Repeat Chorus
Hope of all the ages now Here we humbly bow before Singing
praises to Thy name, forevermore (forevermore)
Repeat Chorus (x2)
Narrative: I heard the singing and praising fade away as quickly
as it had begun. In a short time, the crowd would raise its voice again,
but this time it would not be in praise.
Scriptural Reference:
"Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem!
See, your King comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and
riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey." Zechariah
9:9 "He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of
dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised
and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like
one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him
not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet
we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted."
Isaiah 53:2-4
Narrative: In those last days I tried so hard, once again, to
show the people my Father’s way. My compassion for them ran so deep. "Oh
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, how often I have longed to gather your children
together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not
willing." I even spoke in parables of the kingdom of God so that they
might understand. But they would not hear. This is why I spoke to them in
parables. Though seeing they do not see, though hearing they do not hear
or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophesy of Isaiah, “you will be
ever hearing but never understanding, you will be ever seeing but never
perceiving.” For this people’s heart has become calloused. They hardly
hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they
might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their
hearts and turn, and I would heal them. Sometimes I wondered if anyone had
ever really heard or truly seen. The handful of men that followed me
faithfully, had they really heard, could they really know and believe?
During the last night we spent together, I tried so hard to help them
understand.
Chorus 1: Do you believe in me And in the words I say And in
Him who sent me from above Do you believe in my love
I’ve tried so many ways to show you my love And show you who I
am Sometimes I wonder if you’ve ever learned Or if you
understand
Chorus 2: Do you believe in me (do you believe in me) And in the
words I say (and in the words I say) And in Him who sent me from above
(sent me from above) Do you believe in my love (do you believe in my
love)
This is my body that is broken for you Never forget what I’ve
done This is my blood that is shed for you This is what makes us
one
Chorus 3: Do you believe in me And in the words I say (do you
believe) And in Him who sent me from above (in Him who sent me from
above) Do you believe in my love
Scriptural Reference:
"'You will be ever hearing, but never understanding; you will be ever
seeing, but never perceiving. This people's heart has become
calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their
eyes.'" Isaiah 6:9-10 "This is why I speak to them in parables:
'Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or
understand.' In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: 'You will
be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never
perceiving. For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear
with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they
might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their
hearts and turn, and I would heal them.'" Matthew 13:13-15 "O
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to
you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen
gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing."
Matthew 23:37 and Luke 13:34
Narrative: That night, all of my disciples, except for the one
who betrayed me, pledged their love and devotion for me. Still I knew that
in the end all would forsake me. I even told them, "This very night you
will fall away on account of me, for it is written 'I will strike the
shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'” Peter said that
even if it meant his death he would not deny me, and all the others
likewise agreed that they too had such devotion. Knowing that my hour was
near I went to a garden to pray, and these same men who were willing to
die with me only moments before now found it difficult to stay awake and
pray. But they would understand soon enough. That night in the garden was
the most agonizing part of those final moments. My soul was overwhelmed
with sorrow, to the point of death. And being in anguish I prayed more
earnestly, and my sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground, and
I prayed, my Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me, yet
not as I will, but as you will. I had known for a time what my destiny on
earth would be, but nevertheless, now that it was here I wondered, could I
bear it, was there another way?
Father, Father, is there no other way Father, Father, I know not
what to pray I’ve always sought to do Thy will And that is my desire
still But why do I feel so alone Such sorrow I have never known
Father, Father, is there no other way Father, Father, I know not
what to pray Is there a way that you can see To let this cup pass
from me But even while I spoke those words Deep in my heart Your
voice I heard
Father, Father, there is no other way Father, Father, I’ll do Your
will today
Scriptural Reference:
"'Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is close to
me!' declares the Lord Almighty. 'Strike the shepherd, and the
sheep will be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the little
ones." Zechariah 13:7 "Then Jesus told them, 'This very night you
will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: "I will strike the
shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered."'" Matthew
26:31 "Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.
'Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?' he asked Peter.
'Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The
spirit is willing, but the body is weak.' He went away a second time
and prayed, 'My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken
away unless I drink it, may your will be done.'" Matthew
26:40-42
(crowd noise) (Pilate): What accusations do you bring against this
man? (Voice from crowd): He’s a liar! (Voice from crowd): He’s a
blasphemer! (Voice from crowd): That’s why we brought him to
you. (Pilate): Why don’t you judge him yourselves? (Voice from
crowd): We’re not permitted to put anyone to death. (Pilate): Are you
the king of the Jews? (Pilate): Look, I’m not a Jew, I just want to
know what you’ve done. (Voice from crowd): He says he’s the Son of
God! (Voice from crowd): He said he was going to destroy the
temple! (Voice from crowd): He works magic and deceives the
people! (Voice from crowd): He thinks he’s equal to God! (Pilate):
Do you hear these accusations? (Pilate): What do you have to
say? (Pilate): Aren’t you going to defend yourself? (Pilate): I find
no guilt in this man. However, you have a custom that I should release
someone for you at the Passover. Do you wish then that I release for
you the King of the Jews? (Voice from crowd): No, not this man, but
Barabbas! (Voice from crowd): Yes, give us Barabbas! (Voice from
crowd): Give us Barabbas! (Pilate): I’m bringing this man Jesus out to
you so you may know that I find no guilt in him. Behold, The Man. Take him
yourself and crucify him, I find no fault in him. (Voice from crowd):
He’s guilty! (Crowd chants “guilty”, “crucify him” several times, then
just "crucify him" several more times)
Scriptural Reference:
"Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him,
'Are you the king of the Jews?' 'Yes, it is as you say,' Jesus
replied. When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he
gave no answer. Then Pilate asked him, 'Don't you hear the testimony
they are bringing against you?' But Jesus made no reply, not even to
a single charge--to the great amazement of the governor. Now it was
the governor's custom at the Feast to release a prisoner chosen by the
crowd. At that time they had a notorious prisoner, called
Barabbas. So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, 'Which
one do you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called
Christ?' For he knew it was out of envy that they had handed Jesus
over to him. While Pilate was sitting on the judge's seat, his wife
sent him this message: 'Don't have anything to do with that innocent man,
for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.'
But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for
Barabbas and to have Jesus executed. 'Which of the two do you want
me to release to you?' asked the governor. 'Barabbas,' they
answered. 'What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?'
Pilate asked. They all answered, 'Crucify him!' 'Why? What
crime has he committed?' asked Pilate. But they shouted all the
louder, 'Crucify him!' When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere,
but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his
hands in front of the crowd. 'I am innocent of this man's blood,' he
said. 'It is your responsibility!' Matthew 27:11-24
I said that I would die for Him I really thought I could But
there I was denying Him I never thought I would I failed the Lord
(failed the Lord), I let Him down (I let Him down) After all He’s done
for me And now He’s walking up a hill A hill called Calvary
Chorus: Calvary (Calvary), Calvary Was it meant for Him Was it
meant for me Calvary (Calvary), Calvary Is that my cross He’s taking
to Calvary
He found me in my sin and told me Go and sin no more And ever
since that day I’m not The way I was before I only came To thank
Him for the life He gave to me But there He’s going up a hill A hill
called Calvary
Repeat Chorus (x2)
Scriptural Reference:
"Immediately a rooster crowed. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had
spoken: 'Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.'
And he went outside and wept bitterly." Matthew 26:75 "And when
they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified
him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the
left." Luke 23:33 (KJV)
Narrative: I had never known pain like I felt on that cross. In
the darkest moment I cried out to my father, my God, my God, why have you
forsaken me! Yet I was not alone in my suffering. As my mother stood
before me and gazed upon her son, it was she who also suffered.
Is this the boy I raised Is this the son I knew Is this the one I
loved Why can't they love Him too
What has my son ever done to you Has he caused you some pain As I
recall all He's shown is love Why can't you show Him the same
This is the boy I raised (this is the boy I raised) This is the son
I knew (this is the son I knew) This is the one I've loved (this is the
one I've loved) Why can't they love Him too
Oh what can I do, my son Why can't they see what I know Is this
the way it must be Is this the way you must go (is this the way you
must go)
I'd gladly die in your place If I could save you some pain But I
can see in your face My death would not be the same
You are the boy I raised You are the son I knew You are the one
I've loved Why can't they love You too
Scriptural Reference:
"And Mary said: 'My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in
God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his
servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the
Mighty One has done great things for me--holy is his name. His mercy
extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.'" Luke
1:46-50
Narrative: The last person I remember laying my eyes upon was a
Roman centurion. I thought, how strange, that this one who had
caused me so much pain should be closest to me at the end. Where
were my disciples? Where were those I healed? Where were those
I fed? My eyes once again came upon this one who did not believe,
but I knew it was for ones like this that I came. For God so loved
the world, that he gave me, his one and only son, that whoever believes in
me shall not perish but have eternal life. Perhaps, through all
this, the centurion might also believe.
I’m the one who spat upon the Savior I’m the one who mocked His holy
name I’m the one who said with all the rest, "Crucify Him" I’m the
one, I’m the one to blame I’m the one who made Him go to Calvary I’m
the one who nailed Him to the tree Even though I am the one who brought
all this on Him He’s the one who tells me He forgives me
Chorus: What kind of man is this Why does He care for me Look
what I’ve done to Him I guess He doesn’t see That I’m the one to
blame I caused Him all this shame What kind of man is this What
kind of man is this
Repeat Chorus
Truly this was the Son of God I should have been the one to
die What greater love has anyone than this That He would give
himself for such as I
Scriptural Reference:
"When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the
earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed,
'Surely he was the Son of God!'" Matthew 27:54
Thorns on His head, spear in His side Yet it was a heartache that
made Him cry He gave His life so you would understand Is there any
way you could say no to this Man?
If Christ Himself (standing here) Were standing here (glory in His
face) Face full of glory and eyes full of tears (eyes, hold out His
arms) He'd hold out His arms with His nail-printed hands (nail scarred
hands, how could you say no) Is there any way you could say no to this
Man?
Chorus: How could you look in His tear-stained eyes Knowing it's
you He's thinking of? Would you tell Him you're not ready to give Him
your life? Could you say you don't think you need His love?
Jesus is here with His arms open wide You can see Him with your
heart if you'll stop looking with your eyes He's left it up to you,
He's done all He can Is there any way you could say no to this Man?
Repeat Chorus (with echoes) (x2)
Thorns on His head, your life is in His hands Is there any way you
could say no to this Man?
Oh, is there any way you could say no to this Man?
Scriptural Reference:
"And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in
you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal
bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you." Romans 8:11
Think of all the things I’ve said Think how on the cross I bled for
you What will you do?
Will you turn me down today Will you up and walk away Inside your
heart you’ll always say It’s not for me
Laugh at me and turn me away Say anything you want to say But all
I’m telling you is true And all I’ve done I’ve done for you And now
I guess it’s up to you What will you do? What will you do?
